Saturday March 11th

On our way to Rotorua today.  We had a leisurely breakfast. Dennis fixed pancakes for our hosts and then we loaded up in their car and hit the road. We stopped a couple times for a lunch break and a couple of sights.

Lunch was at a petrol stop with a mini food mall. We decided not to do subway. Dennis chose a chicken kebab and a wrapped frankfurt.   And I had a chicken and sweet potato  wrap with a sauce similar to plum sauce. We were both happy with our choices.

Further down the road we stopped at a battle site, Rangiriri Paa . It was the first battle between the British and Maoris in 1863.

This is a replica of a whare pronounced as far ee
It means house or home

We continued our travels and took a short stop in Tirau to stretch our legs and have a snack. This building was made out of corrugated metal and now houses an opp shop ( like a goodwill store.)

We ended our day with a stroll along the waterfront in Rotorua  and thai food.

There was a free outdoor concert with fireworks at the park across from our hotel
